Are servers still monitored if the Performance Server is down?
Most information is still monitored even if the central Performance Store server is down, e.g. for maintenance. When the Performance Store server is up running again, information will be collected.
Some data is collected by Performance Store by sampling various DMVs on the monitored SQL Servers. When the central Performance Store server is down, these samples are not performed.
Data like long running queries, audit information, errors, deadlocks, query statistics, procedure statistics, failover history, unused indexes, missing indexes etc. are still captured even if the Performance Store server is down.
